Midlife Identity: Who You Are Outside Every Role You Play
Many women in midlife carry a subtle but chronic feeling of dissatisfaction, unfulfillment, or exhaustion that doesn't lift, even when the roles they play are going well. Mother, partner, worker, daughter: each one matters, and each one is largely lived in service of someone else. Here's the truth: part of what you're feeling may not be a need for more effort or a better schedule. It may be a disconnection from your identity outside of those roles, an essential part of you that isn't defined by work, partnership, or motherhood, and that hasn't gone anywhere. It's been waiting for you to reconnect.
In this episode, I introduce the Waiting Self, the part of you that exists outside of being needed by anyone, and why "waiting" is a more accurate word than "lost." I also walk you through a way to reconnect with the source of intuition, wisdom, and creativity inside you, and what it looks like to tend the small flame within.
Key Takeaways:
- Why chronic dissatisfaction and exhaustion may be connected to a midlife identity that isn't located in any role you play
- The difference between a self that's lost and a self that's waiting, and why that difference matters
- How to reconnect with your Waiting Self in small, day-to-day adjustments
